Two Roads

Helping you find a job and life you love. Figuring out what to do with your life ain’t easy. Should I change jobs? What job would I change to? Should I go back to Uni? Where should I live? This is especially true for people in their 20s and 30s. It can be a bit of a quarter life crisis. I know so many people who are questioning what they are doing and considering a change. They picked a uni course out of school which led straight to a graduate role, but know they’re wondering if that’s really what they want to do for the rest of their lives. I’ve spent days and nights grappling with the same questions. I still do. This podcast hopes to help you answer some of those questions. We give you a real life view into a wide range of careers and lifestyles. You’ll hear from nanny’s, investment bankers, coders, online coaches, real estate developers, designers, marketing agency owners, sales people, teachers and more. You’ll hear about their day to day job - the real insights into what their lifestlye is like what they hate and what they love and even how money they make. You’ll also discover how to get into that career if it’s one you want to go after.

EP30
A lot of people want to do their own thing. They want it for the freedom, for the lifestyle, for the impact or for the money.
But there is not one single path for doing your own thing and being an entrepreneur. And each one is actually VERY different. You need to know the differences between each path so you can pick which one is best for you.
On this episode I break down the 4 types of entrepreneurship. I go into detail on what your work looks like, your lifestyle, how much money you can make and what skills you need. I've spent the last few years working closely with people from each of these categories and interviewing many of them for this podcast.
This episode shares everything I've learned about each of those paths.

EP29 with Claire CarrollClaire graduated university with a degree in psychology and has spent twenty years in the advertising and sales industry - including 10 years as a sales leader at Google.
But 2 years ago, she was offered a redundancy from Google and the opportunity to embark on a new path. After some soul searching, she made the decision to become an executive coach and to start her own business. She now runs that full time whilst also being the primary care giver and bread winner for two young kids, aged 6 and 4.
Because Claire works with so many people going through career changes, she has a unique perspective on the challenges people face when trying to figure out what they want to do, and make a change. As you have heard, she's also had a very impressive career herself, with lots of lessons learned along the way.
On this episode you'll hear about;
The 4 things that hold people back from leaving their job and how to get over them
How to use your friends to find your biggest strengths
What to do if you've recently been made redundant
What to do if your identity is tied to your job
What life is like running a coaching business - what Claire enjoys about coaching and what makes a good coach
How Claire balances her career with also being the primary care giver for two young kids
How Claire finds a sense of belonging and meaning in normality

EP28 with Chanel Venter, Founder of Magnify
In 2019, Chanel was working in a corporate job in hospitality. By all accounts she was a high achiever and had received multiple promotions in her work. But she found that with each promotion, the high would quickly wear off and she would be left feeling pretty dissatisfied with her role. She wanted more freedom in her life and started to think of ways she could make that happen...
Fast forward 4 years and Chanel is the Founder and Managing Director of a very successful business providing mystery shopping in the hospitality industry. Chanel has doubled the revenues of the business each year business, and has grown her team to 5 people, providing services to some of the top hospitality brands in mutiple countries. But perhaps more importantly, Chanel has achieved her goal of creating a life of freedom for herself. She lives in Bali where she works remotely amd has complete control over how and where she spends her time.
Although this is a great story of someone creating a life they love, Chanel will be the first to say that it's been a total roller coaster. We talk about all the highs and lows of this journey and what she has learned about herself along the way,.
On this episode you will also hear about;
Why Chanel finally decided to leave her job and start her own business
The exact steps she took to transition from her full time job into doing her own thing
What life is actually like for Chanel, running her own business and living in Bali
Some of the downsides of being a solo founder and what Chanel has done to combat those
Advice for someone who is trying to figure out what to do in their lives
Chanel's thoughts on relationships and how to make sure you are doing the right thing for yourself in your relationships, while still pursuing your work goals.
Chanel is a wonderfully interesting person who is incredibly open about her own journey and I think that is what helped make this conversation so enjoyable.
